No objections from state agencies on Spring Center comp plan amendment

Hernando County commissioners approved sending the comprehensive plan amendment for Spring Center to state agencies for review on April 10, 2018. The county received the last of the responses from those agencies on June 22. The proposed Spring Center Planned Development District (PDD) is located on a 450 acre parcel of property in Spring Hill, just south of Northcliffe Blvd, with Greynolds Avenue to the east, Dunkirk Road to the south, and River Road to the west.

Brooksville City Council passes amendment and opinion referendum for ballot

BROOKSVILLE- On July 16, 2018 City council considered an ordinance for a charter amendment and a resolution for the November 6, 2018 election ballot.

Ordinance 891, places an amendment on the ballot recommended by the city’s Charter Review Committee which aligns procedures for citizen petitions of ordinance proposals with citizen petitions proposing charter amendments. 


Shooting suspect shot and killed by smoke shop employee

Theodore Antonia Parker, a 60 year old white male, went on a shooting spree Thursday afternoon and was finally shot down by the employee of a smoke shop he was robbing.

The first shooting took place at 2:36 pm in Hudson at a home on Chestnut Drive where he took several shots at a female victim who he had also physically beaten.  Fortunately, the woman was not hit by any of the bullets and her injuries were non life threatening.

Brooksville City Council sets tentative Brooksville Fire Department assessments

The fire assessment fee is a “non-ad valorem special assessment.” There are two tiers. Tier 1, for developed properties, is based on a fraction of improved value and tier 2 is assessed a flat rate ( for vacant parcels). The fire assessment fees have been increasing steadily since they were implemented in 2012. FY 2016 fire assessment for tier 1 properties was $.80 per $1000 of improvement value and $100 per parcel for tier 2 properties. FY 2017 approved fire assessments for tier 1 was $.85 per $1000 of improved value and $125 per parcel for Tier 2.

Principal Crognale describes positive results for Endeavor and Discovery Academies

Endeavor Academy is a program for students with ongoing documented behavior problems from grade 6 through high school seniors. It has been in operation since 1976, with a one year hiatus in 1992.  Some students come to the program after committing student code of conduct infractions as a second chance before expulsion. Others have committed felonies in the community and are referred to the program by committee.
