Linda Sue Wingrove

Linda Sue Wingrove (Weaver), 83, of Brooksville, Florida, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2023. Linda was born on March 8, 1939, in Akron, Ohio, and grew up on her family’s farm. She graduated from Manchester High School in 1957, where she played on the school’s basketball and bowling teams. She went on to attend the University of Akron and played on the University’s basketball team, which she led in foul shooting. While attending Akron, Linda met and married her future husband, Clarence Wingrove.
In 1967, Linda and her family moved to Brooksville, Florida, where Clarence was hired as a teacher. Linda was active with youth sports coaching her sons’ little league baseball teams, one of the first women In Hernando County to do so. She taught her own children and many others how to throw, catch and hit a ball. Linda also acted as a Cub Scout Den Mother and was heavily involved in Brooksville’s Youth Football League. Linda cherished her daughter Rebecca and cared for her through a lifelong health battle. The pair spent their days together–shopping, going to the beach, and attending their beloved Miami Hurricanes’ sporting events. Linda brought much joy to her daughter’s life. Rebecca passed away in 1990.
Linda was a dedicated Canes fan, and she and her husband were fixtures at UM football, basketball, and baseball games. She was an avid traveler and visited her children and grandchildren in Antigua, Washington D.C., Alaska, Seattle, and Cape Cod. After her husband’s passing in 2015, Linda and her two youngest grandchildren adventured to the Grand Canyon, driving the whole way. For many years she was her youngest son’s fishing partner and was especially skilled at catching sharks. Linda enjoyed making her own candles and found much happiness in regaling her grandchildren with stories about her childhood on the farm, the equipment she loved to ride, and the pony she once entered in the local fair. Linda was a passionate person and a dedicated mother and grandmother. She will be sorely missed.
She is predeceased by her parents, Ralph Weaver and Zera Weaver (Lawrence); husband, Clarence W. Wingrove; and daughter, Rebecca L. Wingrove. She is survived by her three sons, Richard R. Wingrove (Pamala) of Horse Shoe, NC; Charles A. Wingrove and Michael S. Wingrove (Stacy), both of Brooksville, FL; her sister, Bonnie Johnson of Cayce, SC; and her five grandchildren, Dixon, Peyton, Savannah, Meadow, and Carter.
