BROOKSVILLE – The Hernando County School District will make the following administrative changes effective July 1, 2018. Brent Gaustad, acting interim principal of Moton Elementary School (MES) will leave his position as principal of D.S. Parrott Middle (DSPMS) and remain Principal of Moton for the long term.

Gaustad, an experienced administrator and long-time resident of Brooksville, is credited with successfully turning around DSPMS from a school grade of “D” in 2014 to a “B” in 2017.

Homeowner Sustains Injuries as a Result of a Barn Fire.

(Brooksville, FL) at 3:03 p.m. this afternoon Hernando County Fire Rescue (HCFR) responded to reports of a barn on fire. The fire was located in a rural area of Hernando County at 33031 Ranch Rd, Dade City, FL. Initial reports of explosions and the fire spreading to the nearby residence. Fire crews arrived on scene and found a fully involved barn. Crews quickly performed a search of the residence and confirmed that all occupants were out and accounted for. Fire crews extinguished the barn fire and were able to keep fire damage to the home to minimal exterior damage.

Dog park closed for spraying

(Brooksville, FL) The Hernando County Parks and Recreation Department will be closing Rotary Centennial Park (Dog Park) located at 10375 Sandlor Street in Spring Hill on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 to spray the grounds for ticks and fleas. The Dog Park will re-open on Thursday, March 15, 2018 from sunrise to sunset.

Three county parks soon to accept credit cards only at meters

(Brooksville, FL) The Hernando County Parks and Recreation Department announces that effective March 30, 2018, credit cards will be the only form of payment accepted at parking meters located at the following locations:

Rogers Park

Hernando Beach Boat Ramp

Bayport Park

Staff members at the Alfred McKethan/Pine Island Park will continue to accept cash or credit card at the gate.

Flags at half-staff to honor Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School victims


Gov. Rick Scott, "In honor and remembrance of the victims of the senseless violence committed at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, on February 14, 2018, I hereby direct the flags of the United States and the State of Florida to be flown at half-staff at all local and state buildings, installations, and grounds throughout the State of Florida. The flags shall be lowered immediately and remain at half-staff until sunset on Monday, February 19, 2018."
