Deputies Investigating Animal Cruelty and Abuse Case

On 10-15-19 just before 11:30 a.m., an anonymous caller contacted the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office to report possible animal abandonment.

The caller stated that animals, possibly dogs, were being kept in a storage unit in the area of Hale Avenue and Dr. MLK Jr. Boulevard in the City of Brooksville.

Preliminary investigation revealed a self-storage facility to be located at 1000 Hale Avenue in Brooksville. An Animal Enforcement Officer (AEO) was dispatched to that location in an effort to locate the animals.

Pasco County man arrested for sexual battery of 10-year-old Brooksville girl

HCSO ALERT

On 10-12-19 at 10:20 a.m., deputies responded to a residence in Brooksville regarding a missing 10-year-old girl.

The child was last seen around 3 a.m. when a family member saw her going to use the bathroom. When family members awoke at 6:40 a.m., they were unable to locate the child. The family searched for the child prior to contacting law enforcement.

Additional law enforcement at Fox Chapel today

On Friday, 10-04-19, the School Resource Officer at Fox Chapel Middle School, Deputy David Oliphant, was made aware that a student on campus made statements during a class that caused concern to those who were able to overhear the statements.

Deputy Oliphant promptly launched an investigation, speaking with all witnesses and the student in question.  The student admitted to making a statement that may have been taken out of context, but also stated that he had no intentions of committing any act(s) of violence or doing harm to any person on the campus.

Deputies Make Arrest in School Threat at Challenger K-8

On 09-20-19 at 8:47 a.m., the School Resource Officer at Challenger K-8, Deputy Shaun Duval, received information that a student may be arriving at school (on a school bus) with a firearm. As he received the information, the school buses were arriving at the school.

Additional deputies were dispatched to the campus.

Deputies located the student, Austin Lemuel Cheveres, 14 years of age, and took him to the school office for questioning.

During this time, other deputies on the scene interviewed other students and additional witnesses.

School resource deputy saves choking student at Eastside Elementary School

On Sept. 17, 2019 as students were finishing breakfast in the cafeteria at Eastside Elementary School, School Resource Deputy Christopher Downey observed a pre-kindergarten teacher running toward him, with a student in her arms.

As the teacher approached Deputy Downey, she advised him that the student was choking and needed assistance.

Deputy Downey sprang into action.

Hernando High School Student Dies in Early Morning Accident

Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) reported that at 6:49 AM on September 13, 2019, 16 year old Trevor Bowen was walking along the northbound side of California Street near Tampa Street, when he was struck by a van driven by 64 year old Larry Marsh of Brooksville, who was travelling northbound.   Bowen died at the scene. 

FHP reports that alcohol was not a factor in the accident, though charges are pending.

Sheriff's Office: Central High School firearm scare, a hoax

UPDATE:

Deputies have completed a secondary search of the Central High School campus. 

Investigators say the incident is a hoax.

Deputies were initially called to Central High School regarding reports of a person walking onto campus with a firearm. At no time was there an active shooter on campus. 

Deputies conducted an initial search of the campus, and then a secondary search of the campus in an abundance of caution. 

Again, investigators say this report is a hoax. Central High School and the surrounding schools remain on lockdown. 

Missing Endangered Adult - Bonnie Poulsen

UPDATE:  August 26, 2019  3:32 PM

There has been a possible sighting of Bonnie Poulsen from earlier today near U.S. 301 and the Whispering Oaks subdivision in Ridge Manor.  It appeared she was attempting to hitchhike southbound on U.S. 301.  We're asking all residents to keep an eye out for Ms. Poulsen.

Bonnie Poulsen was last seen on 08-26-19 at approximately 12:05 p.m., when she walked away from her residence located on Cedarfield Drive, in Ridge Manor.

Deadly Drugs and Stolen Firearm Located by Alert Deputies

In two separate incidents, just hours apart, Hernando County Sheriff’s deputies located and removed numerous deadly drugs and a stolen firearm from the streets of Hernando County.

On 07-15-19 just after 8 p.m., Deputy Matthew LaPalme received information regarding a vehicle stopped/parked in the middle of the roadway near 5057 Bromley Avenue in Spring Hill. The vehicle was reportedly running and had a driver/occupants inside.
