Keeping up the Baseball Chemistry Despite Social Challenges

Since the second week of June, Hernando Youth League (HYL) baseball traveled from Jacksonville to Alabama to seek championship titles. 

HYL coach Tim Sims and Timothy Whatley gave these young men an outlet during the most challenging and complex time the nation is facing- to nab a World Series championship title as they traveled to Alabama over the July 24 weekend.

Brooksville Majors secure spot at states

When the dust settled in the Dixie Baseball AAA Majors (age 11-12) All-Stars District 6 Tournament, the county’s lone participant kept its summer run alive.
Hernando Youth League’s Brooksville entry into the event held at Ridge Manor Community Park assured it would move on to the state tournament, starting July 9 in Liberty County, by finishing in second place.
The Brooksville squad went 2-2, with bookend losses to district champion South Lake, 14-4 on June 17 and 9-8 in Tuesday night’s final.

Hernando Youth League Treasurer Charged with Bank Fraud

Treasurer of Hernando Youth League and CenterState Bank Executive (Sr. Vice President) David Donato has been charged with bank fraud. US Attorney A. Lee Bentley III filed the information and plea agreement charging Donato with bank fraud earlier this week. If convicted he could face up to 30 years in federal prison. The United States also intends to seek a money judgment in the amount of $143,878.80, that traces back to the fraud proceeds.
