Ideas to share for a special day in February

As Valentine's Day approaches, many people plan formal Date Nights with their special someone; fancy soirees that feature wine, roses and all the trimmings. Yet for those in search of a low- or no-cost, family friendly way to celebrate the holiday of love, a number of Hernando nonprofit and government centers are 'putting their hearts' into the planning of a spectrum of enjoyable events.  

Celebrate Women Leading the Way

As the nation this year celebrates the centennial anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment, the Constitutional Amendment granting United States women the right to vote, Brooksville Main Street and The Hernando Sun are marking the milestone with the Women Leading the Way Women's Suffrage Event/Exhibition March 20-21. And in addition to honoring the brave suffragists who put their lives on the line to secure a basic human right, this event will honor the visionary women of Hernando County.

Family oriented events on New Year's Eve

Although generally associated with sparkly parties and endless streams of champagne, the New Year's Eve holiday also can be regarded as a time of family celebration. And this year in Hernando County, a jubilant trio of family friendly events aim to start off the new year with some good, clean fun--making many memories and starting some new traditions in the process.

2020 Art in the Park includes competition for local artists

For the past 36 years, the Art in the Park event has served as a rich creative showcase for artists in this area; one that draws about 6,000 attendees each year. And now, for the first time, this popular event is set to include a competitive art contest for locals offering $450 in prize money and numerous promotional opportunities for the winners.

Food, Potent Potables and Music – A Recipe for Fun at Hernando Untapped Festival

Despite the damp chilly weather, an enthusiastic crowd turned out to sample beer, wine and other “potent potables” at the Greater Hernando Chamber’s fifth annual Untapped Craft Beer and Wine Festival. The event took place on Friday, Nov. 15 at the American Aviation property at the airport. People dressed in warm coats, boots and hats started filing in at 5:00 p.m.
