An event to flip for

The band plays their heart out, children dance, partake in games of tag and tumble in the grass.  Older couples slow dance, folks walk with their family dog on a leash (or in a stroller if they are of a small and fluffy persuasion.)

Building connections and community is at the heart of Brooksville Main Street's monthly Friday Night Live event.  The simple joys of life in a small town are on display every second Friday of the month in downtown Brooksville.

Operation Backpack in Hernando: giving and growing every year

In recent days, many back to school giveaways have taken place throughout the county offering a wide variety of services to students embarking on a new school year, from free vision tests and physicals to free backpacks. The Hernando County Sheriff's Office ran the Back to School Extravaganza at Anderson Snow Park which drew approximately 3500 people on Aug. 3.  There was also Operation Backpack at the Jerome Brown Center in Brooksville that same day, which aimed to giveaway about 500 backpacks to area children.

Art. It’s an expression of creativity or imagination and spans all aspects of our lives from the visual and literary arts  to music, theatre, dance and film. Art enhances everything we do through avenues like fashion, architecture or books just to name a few.

“One of the ways we encourage, promote, and support the creative arts in our county is the annual Art in the Park event,” said Hernando County Fine Arts Council Projects Coordinator Jan Knowles.
