Fire Captain dies in car crash

During the early morning hours of Sept. 27, 2021, while off duty, Captain Mark Dempsey, 44, was involved in a single vehicle collision, suffering fatal injuries.  He was driving home.

Dempsey entered the Department in 2001 and was promoted to Captain in 2017.  He was serving at Fire Station #7 as an Acting Battalion Chief, and was the Coordinator for the Hazardous Materials Team.

Mark leaves behind his loving wife and two sons.  Funeral service information will be released as soon as arrangements are finalized.

The Department requests thoughts and prayers for the family of Mark Dempsey.
