BY THE HERNANDO COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS, FLORIDA, NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that, pursuant to Ordinance No. 31-01 of the Hernando County Ordinances, comments, objections, and recommendations regarding the County’s intent to name the County Property after Harry Johnson.

Harry Johnson was a long-time resident and local community leader who was born April 10, 1961, in Newton, North Carolina. Harry peacefully passed away on Friday, October 8, 2021, at the age of 60. Harry came to Hernando County at the young age of nine and was one of the originals of the first graduating class of Frank W. Springstead High School in 1979, even playing on the football team. Harry had a passion for the community service industry and started his career with the YMCA. There, he was an integral part in securing the first YMCA location in Hernando County before making the Hernando County Parks and Recreation Department his home. While working for the Hernando County Parks and Recreation, Harry directed programs and later advanced his career to become the department head. He participated in many projects and events that have helped grow this community and tended to the needs of the citizens with various park improvements and projects. Harry was a huge influence for many of the citizens, especially the young athletes and the local athletic leagues. Harry was a well-loved individual by all who had an opportunity to be acquainted with him.

The location of the property is property located on Anderson Snow Road, Parcel Key # 1292719, 50 acres being the West 821 feet of the North-West 1/4 Desc in ORB 1016, Page 122 & Less R/W, Hernando County, Florida. This intent is to only rename the new amenities of the park.

At this time, the Board will receive public comment on the proposed Intent to name County property mailed to Hernando County Administration 15470 Flight Path Drive, Brooksville, Fl 34604, until March 8, 2022.

The public hearing will be held at the John Law Ayers room located on the first floor of the Government Center, located at 20 N. Main Street in Brooksville, FL on March 22, 2022, at 9:00 a.m., or as soon thereafter as the matter can be heard.

For such purpose, a person appealing the decision may need to ensure the creation of a verbatim record, which captures the testimony and evidence upon which the appeal is based.
