Hugh McQuade, Jr.

Hugh McQuade, Jr., 91, of Hudson, FL, passed away on September 12, 2023. He was born on September 23, 1931, in New Haven, CT, to the late Helen (Ottenheimer) and Hugh McQuade. Hugh was known to his loved ones as Bud, and he will be remembered for his outgoing and friendly nature, his commitment to family as well as his strong work ethic.

Bud enlisted in the Air Force and was proud to be a Korean War Veteran. After his military service, Bud and his wife Jean settled in Connecticut, working as a skilled machinist at Pratt & Whitney, where he helped to build aircraft engine prototypes in their research division. After retiring, Bud and Jean moved to Spring Hill and then Brookville Florida.

In his free time, Bud enjoyed spending time with his family and tinkering and fixing things around his home. For many years, he was active in the Knights of Columbus, currently as Fourth Degree Knight and past Grand Knight. He always looked forward to shared time with his daughter Debra McQuade, daughter Kim (Gary) Zwingelstein, son Christopher (Abby) McQuade, seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

Bud was preceded in death by his parents Helen and Hugh McQuade, his beloved wife of 65 years, Jean Roy McQuade, and his sister Jean Richards. He will be deeply missed by his surviving family members, including sister Nancy Sanborn, and sister Patricia (E.G.) Fishburne, his children and their families, as well as his close friend Betty Spears.
Bud attended Windham High School, graduating with the class of 1949. He was a dedicated member of St. Columba in Connecticut and later worshipped at St. Francis X Cabrini in Florida after retiring.

A Mass in honor of Bud’s life will be held at St. Francis X. Cabrini Church in Spring Hill, Florida, on October 19, 2023, at noon. Following the Mass, Bud will be laid to rest at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida, at 2:30 p.m. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida.
