The German American Club of Spring Hill will have their monthly membership meeting on Thursday, March 7th, 7:00 P.M., at the Hernando Shrine Hall, 13400 Montour Street, Brooksville, FL. Take SR 50 to Sunshine Grove Rd. and go north for approx. 1.4 miles.  Montour St. is the 4th Street on the left. New members welcome! You do not have to be of German Heritage to be a member or attend!

The Brooksville Parks & Recreation Dept has added a Free Walking Group/ Program that meets at Jerome Brown Community Center Monday’s and Friday’s at 7am, and Wednesday’s at 5pm. The group walks for about an hour through beautiful Tom Varn Park. All fitness levels welcome. 

Taichi/Qigong classes at Jerome Brown Community Center on Tuesdays at 10:30. $9-12 price range

Group Fitness/ Indoor BOOTCAMPS at Jerome Brown Community Center Monday through Friday.  5:30am, 7:00am and 8:30am.  Daily or monthly fees.

Sierra Club Adventure Coast Group meetup March 13 with presentation on “Keep our Springs Healthy”  

Join us for the monthly meet-up of the Sierra Club Adventure Coast Group on Wednesday, March 13th at the Harvey Martin Democratic Center, 3432 Deltona Boulevard in Spring Hill.
Our guest speakers will be Emily May and Rita King from Weeki Wachee Springs State Park who will present on “Keep Our Springs Healthy.”  Emily May became a Park Services Specialist in 2006 and is currently the Wildlife Supervisor, for which she earned the title “Interpreter of the Year” for her district in 2017.   Rita King is a volunteer who was previously one of the famed mermaids at Weeki Wachee Springs for five years in the early 1950’s.  She continues to perform as a “Legendary Siren” but she also helps maintain the springs and educate the community on ways to preserve Florida’s springs.
Social begins at 6:30 p.m., followed by program and meeting at 7 p.m.  Public is welcome and you are also invited to join the Sierra Club, America’s largest environmental organization, that is dedicated to enjoy, explore and protect our world.

Hernando Audubon Beginning Birding: Friday, March 15, 8 a.m. at Chinsegut Conservation Center, 23212 Lake Lindsey Road, Brooksville. Learn to identify birds at feeders and during a short walk. Hernando Audubon Society Meeting: Thursday, March 28. Program: Mike Orlando will talk about Florida Black Bears. 
The population recovery of the Florida Black Bear is a success story. The bear population has increased to over 4,000 
statewide, up from around 300-500 in the 1960s and 1970s. However, more bears and more people on the landscape lead to  human-bear conflicts. What can people learn about bears and securing attractants to reduce these conflicts? The meeting  will begin at 7 p.m. at the Community Activities Center, 205 E. Ft. Dade Avenue, Brooksville. Werner-Boyce Salt Springs State Park (Pasco County): Tuesday, March 12, 8 a.m. at the park entrance, 8737 US-19, Port Richey, $3 park entrance fee. To carpool from Hernando County, meet at 7 a.m. at Denny’s, 1445 Wendy Court (at US-19), Spring Hill. Environmental Scholarship for 2019

The Hernando Audubon Society is pleased to offer the Stephen B. Fickett Memorial Scholarship for 2019.  The scholarship is for $1500 and is open to qualified Hernando County High School Seniors and students at Pasco/Hernando State College who are interested in pursuing a career in the environmental sciences.  Students who have previously participated in science/conservation/environmental clubs or other related activities are encouraged to apply. The scholarship will be presented to the successful candidate at the April 25, 2019 meeting of Hernando Audubon in Brooksville Florida. Applications should include a transcript documenting a minimum of a 3.0 GPA, a resume indicating academic achievements and listing of extracurricular activities, and a 500 word essay describing: My Personal Goals and Ambitions to Help Protect Florida’s Natural Environment.  Applications should be submitted to: Tom St Clair, 4217 Lordings Lane, Weeki Wachee, FL 34607.  April 15 is the deadline to submit an application for the scholarship.

Nature Coast 912 Patriots

Our March 16th meeting will mark our 10th Birthday, so come on by for some cake, pizza & coffee, and celebrate with us.
Our guest speaker will be Stacey Selleck, she will speak about term limits for Congress. Term limits is one of those issues 
that never seem to go away, like the Southern Border or a balanced federal budget, so maybe it’s time for us to get serious about it. This meeting will be on: March 16, 2019

Picture Perfect

Nature Coast Orchid Society’s Show and Sale, “Picture Perfect”, open to the public. This year featuring two artists! The show will be held March 30 & 31, hours are 10 – 4, entrance fee is $3.00.  Orchid and orchid supply companies will be there to show and sell orchids, orchid supplies and a vendor selling custom made orchid and flower pots.  The show is at the VFW Post 8681 at 18940 Drayton St, (corner of Drayton and County Line Rd.) in Spring Hill.  Entrance fee is $3.00.  This is an AOS sanctioned show, bring your orchid to be judged by an AOS judge, even if you are not a member. See you there!

We go on fun field trips,  (like the Dali museum), during months in which we do not meet.

PHSC SEEKS EMPLOYERS TO PARTICIPATE IN JOB FAIR IN BROOKSVILLE

Pasco-Hernando State College (PHSC), CareerSource Pasco Hernando, the Hernando Chamber of Commerce, and Hernando County Office of Economic Development are seeking employers to participate in the Opportunity 2019 Hernando County Job Fair scheduled on Thursday, April 4, 2019 from 9 a.m. to noon. The event will be held at the PHSC North Campus in Brooksville, 11415 Ponce de Leon Blvd, B104/105.
Local employers interested in promoting open positions and future positions will have the opportunity to meet with job seekers from the community and PHSC students seeking employment. Priority will be provided to employers with open positions in Pasco and Hernando Counties. Oak Hill Hospital’s Volunteer Association Has Volunteer Opportunities

 Spring Hill, Florida (February 18, 2019) – Oak Hill Hospital announces that its Volunteer Association currently has volunteer opportunities available in its gift shop located at the main entrance of the hospital in the South Tower. Oak Hill Hospital’s gift shop is managed by the Volunteer Association and the net proceeds are used to help provide scholarships to high school seniors entering the medical profession. If you are retired and have had business or retail experience, this is an opportunity to use that experience to raise money for our community’s budding healthcare providers. Volunteers commit to only one four-hour shift per week.
