Hernando Sportsman Club Celebrated Independence Day with a Bigger and Louder Bang

Hernando Sportsman’s Club recently hosted their last Machine Gun Shoot of the year on Friday, July 4th.

The 200-yard shooting range was filled with an of targets: from pots and pans, fire extinguishers, old cars to Randie Rickert’s recently broken down dryer. “There’s a little bit of everything here, American firearms, German firearms,” said Randie Rickert, Hernando Sportsman’s Club President. It appeared that one of the crowd’s favorites was the GE Mini Gatling gun that fires up to 760 rounds of ammo in 4 seconds. “It’s fun, and it’s something that not everyone can do all the time,” said Pinellas County Probations Officer Brian Stewart. “These shooters are highly experienced; there are a lot of exotic machine guns on display that most civilians will never see,” he added.

As a spectator during the event, you were able to see in action a variety of machine guns used during WWI and WWII. “It gives them a safe place to shoot and gives the public a place to come out and see something that would probably be in a museum,” Randie Rickert said.

If you missed the event this year, Hernando Sportsman’s Club hosts the Machine Gun Shoot twice a year: February 24 and July 4th.
