Man Arrested in Connection with Wheystone Drive Homicide

The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office has made an arrest in connection with the shooting death of a 57-year-old Hernando County man earlier today in eastern Hernando County.

Dana Gaffney Sr., W/M DOB/10-17-1962, was shot shortly after 8 a.m. at his Wheystone Drive home by his grandson, Timothy Ryan Gaffney, W/M DOB/05-24-1999.

Following the incident, Dana Gaffney Sr. was transported to a nearby trauma center where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Timothy Gaffney was located less than two hours after the incident, a short distance from where the shooting occurred. Deputies apprehended Timothy Gaffney following a short foot chase.

Details surrounding and leading up to the shooting remain under investigation.

Timothy Gaffney currently faces charges of Second-Degree Murder with a Firearm, Aggravated Assault with a Firearm, and Possession of a Firearm by a Felon.

Timothy Gaffney is still being interviewed by detectives and will be transported to the Hernando County Detention Center shortly, where he will be held without bond.
