On 01-25-20 just after 1 a.m., deputies responded to U.S. 41, just south of Lake Lindsay Road in Brooksville, in reference to a head-on collision.

Upon law enforcement’s arrival, one of the vehicles was on fire.

Upon further investigation, deputies learned the driver of the vehicle who caused the crash had yet to exit the burning vehicle.

K-9 Deputy Jason Jernigan immediately headed over to the vehicle, which was now almost fully engulfed in flames. Deputy Jernigan was able to remove the driver, who was passed out behind the wheel, from the burning vehicle.

Paramedics responded to the scene to treat minor injuries. Deputy Jernigan was not injured.

The Florida Highway Patrol responded to the scene to conduct the crash investigation.

The driver, who was pulled from the burning vehicle, was arrested for driving under the influence.
