Q: How has your business been affected by the COVID-19 crisis?
A: My business has been affected by COVID-19 in several ways. My clients’ level of anxiety was raised. Their concerns over care and coverages initially, then they want to be safe. Next, going to see current and future customers to review coverages has been hampered. We got around that by my dropping materials off at their homes then, we would review them over the phone. If there were changes to be made we could typically perform those tasks electronically. If not, a second trip was necessary to have them sign papers. Lastly, it changes the whole process of how we identify clients, their needs and limits how we can reassure them.
Q:What is the outlook for the insurance industry? What effects are you anticipating?
A: The outlook for the health and life industry should be strong. Hopefully those people out there that have taken a chance with their health or with their families’ futures will take a second look at insurance. Many people don’t realize that if they had life insurance during this time, it could have been a resource to draw on to take care of their families. And if they died, wow, what a difference even a small policy could have made to their family’s future.
Q: How are you serving your customers at this time?
A: I have spent my time calling my customers and making sure their mental and physical health is solid. And if not, helping them get help. 98% of my clients don’t need any assistance from me, so it was just a great opportunity to chat. That was the best part.
Q: Is now a good time to think about insurance?
A: If this hasn’t convinced people, “That proper planning prevents poor performance, “ I don’t know what will. After this everyone should be contacting an agent to review everything from health coverage to retirement savings. After all, protecting our family is a priority for all of us, no better time than the present.
