A new online directory promises to give Hernando County artists and art-related businesses a chance to shine–and art enthusiasts in this area a precious resource that will grant them access to a veritable wealth of beautiful and useful creative masterworks.
The Hernando County Fine Arts Council, whose “mission is to encourage, promote, and support all the creative arts in the county and provide a means to showcase the arts”, introduces The Hernando Arts Directory (https://www.hernandoarts.org/art-directory), which gives artists that reside within a 100-mile radius of Brooksville a place to showcase their profiles, experience, contact information, and even striking visual samples of their artistic creations.
“We started the Art Directory for a few reasons. We know that there are hundreds of talented artists in our community. We wanted to give artists a place where they could show their talents in all disciplines including visual arts, music, theater, literature, filming, teaching, and more,” said Allisa Babor, Founder of Roots Creative Co. and an Arts Council representative. “The directory provides the residents of Hernando County a place to learn about artists, purchase artwork, hire professional services, and connect with talented individuals all in one place at no cost!”
Indeed, through a single visit to The Hernando Arts Directory, an art connoisseur can explore the work of visual, musical, theatrical, literary, film, and educational artists and art-related businesses. The directory can be searched by keywords, media, artist names, and more.
“It will serve our community by existing as an easy, accessible online platform where artists and art-related businesses can connect with the community and get their art and services into the world,” said Beth Putnam, vice-chairperson of the Hernando County Fine Arts Council. “It will serve as a go-to place where Hernando County residents can find artists for hire anytime, anywhere.”
The directory boasts three tiers of involvement; with the initial tier offered free of charge, and the second and third tiers available at cost.

Arts council organizers hope that the directory will prove a real boost to the careers of local artists, many of whom may be unable to attend art shows or open their arts businesses at this time.
“Although the Art Directory has been a passion project of our Council for the past few months, during COVID-19 we knew we had to get it out there for our art community,” said Putnam.”Like many others, artists all around the country are experiencing hardships while art shows are canceled, exhibits are put on hold, and in-person events are currently at a standstill. We knew that now more than ever we needed to support our incredibly talented and wonderful art community here in Hernando County.”
One of the directory’s first participants, Brooksville fine artist Elizabeth Johnson, expresses great appreciation for this effort and opportunity.
“The directory is an incredible opportunity for Hernando County residents to see my work and learn who I am,” said Johnson.
Hernando artists are encouraged to express, display, and even market their creativity through The Hernando Arts Directory; in the process, giving back to the Hernando arts community.
“If you choose a paid tier, your annual subscription will go directly towards funding Hernando County Fine Arts Council projects and grants,” said Babor, “and support the arts right in our community!”
