Notes From the Enrichment Centers Director: The Quilters of the Nature Coast

It gives me great pleasure to acknowledge a group of ladies who are working hard at recognizing the heroism of those who served and are still serving our country and community. These ladies put their creativity to work as they create an incredible tapestry of vivid colors and warmth. This group is known as The Quilters of the Nature Coast.

Formed in 2011, The Quilters of the Nature Coast are a group of ladies who love to get together and sew. They are bursting with ideas and talents they wish to share among themselves and others. The organizer and first President of this great group was Barbara Ogden of Spring Hill, Florida. They met in numerous locations before finding their new home in 2020 at the Mining Association Enrichment Center in Brooksville, Florida.

As Director of the Enrichment Centers, it has been such a joy and an honor to work with the current President, Marion Dorman, in setting up their schedule and a place for their meetings.

They are a very active non-profit group with an Executive Board who meets regularly. Members gather for general Membership Meetings, sew-ins once a month, and a sewing retreat at least once a year. Every member is committed to contributing their time and efforts to making quilts for charities such as the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office, the Guardian Ad Litem Voices for Children program, the People Helping People, and the HIV organization. They also help non-profit organizations raise funds by contributing quilts for raffles at their charitable functions. They have an annual “Boutique Sale” at the Towne Square on Highway 19 in Spring Hill to fund their community projects.

The Quilters of the Nature Coast is a member of the Quilts of Valor Foundation and presents Quilts of Valor to veterans four times a year. On November 11, 2020, they graciously accepted my request to participate in the City of Brooksville’s Veterans in the Park event by presenting Quilts of Valor to four military veterans. All of their members are kind, generous ladies who love the art of sewing and gathering together as friends who can make a difference in society.

Thank you, Quilters of the Nature Coast, for all you do to make people feel accepted, appreciated, and loved. You guys are top-notch!

See these ladies in action at the Mining Association Enrichment Center on Thursdays!
