Lady & the Pirate by JM Bolton

(Winner of the Royal Palm Literary Award for Romance)

This Romance novel, set in the 1690s, mixes historical facts and fiction with subtle hints of action and romance to come. It is a story that, in the beginning, offers you just enough action to grab your attention and interest. Romance, or the promise of romance, can be felt right away as the author quickly introduces you to the main characters.

Although a work of fiction, the story shows a great deal of attention to historical details. As the story builds, the author’s writing style has a way of drawing you in, making you feel as if you’re there and part of the story. While reading the story, your anticipation starts growing early. As you continue looking for that one special moment of romance between the main characters, you suddenly realize that you have been following their romance for several pages.

The events that lead you into the final phase of the story are full of action and make you feel the love and romance the main characters share. It also shows what the main characters are willing to sacrifice for the chance to be together. The ending is somewhat unexpected. But again, it shows the author’s ability to cleverly and thoughtfully build romance.

While I am not much of a fan of Romance novels, JM Bolton’s Lady & the Pirate held my interest from beginning to end and I recommend this book as one that you should read.
