Candles are being blamed for an early morning fire that swept through a home in Brooksville. The home was declared a total loss, but no one was hurt in the blaze.

According to Hernando County Fire and Emergency Services (HCFES) Public Information Officer (PIO) Kenneth D. Wannen, around 1:15 a.m. on Nov. 10, HCFES crews along with those from the Brooksville Fire Department (BFD) responded to a call from a homeowner reporting a residential fire in the 19000 block of Oakdale Ave.

Upon arrival, crews found the structure fully involved in fire. It was subsequently declared a total loss.

The home’s owner, who had evacuated the residence before they arrived, told fire crews that the home had no electricity and that candles were being used to provide light for the residence.
