A medical emergency is being blamed for the single-car collision that claimed the life of a man from Weeki Wachee.

Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) Spokesman Sgt. Steve Gaskins said that just after 11 a.m. on Feb. 21, a 76-year-old man from Weeki Wachee was driving a sport utility vehicle (SUV) eastbound on Glen Lakes Boulevard west of Holly Berry Drive when he suffered a medical emergency and lost control of his vehicle.

The SUV subsequently left the roadway, entered the median and collided with a tree.

The driver was transported to an area hospital where he later expired.

His passenger, a 77-year-old man also from Weeki Wachee, was not injured in the incident.
