The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) is investigating a string of vehicle burglaries and the theft of a truck in an eight-location area of Spring Hill.

According to Deputy Public Information Officer Michael Terry, from the late evening of April 17 through the early morning hours of April 18, the HCSO received several calls reporting that a number of vehicles located on Beckwith Avenue, Alameda Drive, Archway Drive, Carson Avenue, Findlay Avenue, Thornton Court, Bonview Lane, and Venetta Drive in Spring Hill had been burglarized.

At the same time, a GMC Sierra truck was reported stolen.

Terry said that the suspects seemed to target unlocked vehicles parked in the area and that videos obtained from cameras obtained from each crime scene also revealed that the suspects had tools to break the windows of targeted vehicles if they needed them.

The stolen truck was reported missing from the driveway of a residence on Alameda Drive, Terry said. Surveillance video recorded at the scene revealed that the vehicle was taken just before 2 a.m. Deputies later located it apparently abandoned by the thieves near the intersection of Fentress Court and Comstock Street, he said.

According to Terry, the burglaries might be related to similar incidents that have reportedly taken place nearby.

“We believe this string of vehicle burglaries is related to another string of vehicle burglaries committed in Pasco County during the same time frame,” he said. “In addition, we believe the group came from Pinellas County to commit the burglaries.”

The HCSO investigation into the incidents remains ongoing.
