Pine Grove Elementary School, in Brooksville, Florida, achieved first place in Florida, in the annual, national SpringBoard math competition.
Over the duration of this 10-week math challenge, the kids in Ms. King’s Jedis Class successfully completed online math activities to come in first in Florida in a national competition attracting 400,000 students from 20,000+ classes.
The 8th edition of the SpringBoard Math Challenge 2022 run by SplashLearn, the game-based learning program was rolled out for elementary classrooms on March 1, 2022 (the competition ended on May 8, 2022).
Nadia King, teacher of the winning class said, “It has been such a positive experience for the kids who have loved completing the fun math activities. The resource helped me track their ability level, allowing me to assign activities suited to their individual level of development. We were also able to review previous year’s content while also exploring and reviewing this year’s content. Every child in the class contributed equally to our win, regardless of their skills. My favorite part was how every student not only kept their drive throughout the competition, but they continuously encouraged each other, giving each other a pat on the back every time they passed a lesson. I love how this program developed another element of supporting our classroom’s family and deepen a love of math.”
Emmett Carson, student of the winning class said, “We have be in Ms. King’s class for 4th and 5th grade and we were in the contest for two years in a row. It was a really fun time and all of the hard work paid off with us winning first place in Florida those two years.”
