A fireplace log is being blamed for sparking a fire that destroyed a mobile home in Brooksville.

According to a social media posting by the Hernando County Fire and Emergency Services (HCFES), shortly after 3 am on Dec. 1, crews responded to reports of a fire on the 24000 block.

At the scene they found a double-wide mobile home almost completely engulfed in flames.
All the occupants of the home had evacuated before HCFES crews arrived.

Following an investigation and consultation with the Florida State Fire Marshal’s Office, the incident was ruled accidental and that the fire had originated in the home’s fireplace located in its living room.
