Rezoning approved to accommodate two miniature cows

The Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) approved a rezoning petition by Keith Marko at the December 13, 2022 regular meeting. Marko, who owns 1.2 acres on the northeast corner of Rapidan Road and Wharton Avenue will be allowed to share his family’s property with two miniature Zebu cows. The rezoning petition was necessary because the previous zoning only allowed one cow per acre.

Marko’s request states that the two Zebu are beloved family pets which currently entertain students from his daughter’s school. Fully grown, the miniature bovines will reach 34 inches in height.

After the cutest presentation ever — which showed photos of the cows visiting with children taller than they are — the former property designation of R-1C (Residential) was changed to PDP-RUR (Planned Development Project (Rural)) with a specific AG (Agricultural) use.
