A vibrant performance of music and celebration will be presented on Feb. 25 and 26. The Hernando Symphony Orchestra will perform the Spectrum Concert Series at 7:30 pm on Saturday, February 25th, and at 2 pm on Sunday, February 26th, in the main church at St. Frances Cabrini, 5030 Mariner Blvd., Spring Hill.

“Spectrum is our second formal concert series celebrating our 40th season!” said Michele DiLuzio, HSO conductor. “This concert will blend a mixture of some of our favorite songs from past seasons as well as brand new music purchased with patron and musician donations as Gift of Music sponsors.”

The Hernando Symphony Orchestra, a volunteer pops orchestra, was formed in 1982 with a lineup of 13 musicians and a definite mission: Promote community interest in music of high standards, Provide musicians of all ages an opportunity to perform in a symphony orchestra, and Provide scholarship funds to promote string education in Hernando County. The orchestra performs regular season concerts in the months of December, February, and April, in addition to special concerts that occur throughout the year. Ticket sales and contributions help support their Mission Activities.

The Spectrum of tunes performed at this concert will include music captured from the soundtracks of popular films. “Some of the music will include: ‘Star Trek Through the Years’ – this is one of our favorites from our archives. It is an exciting piece that features music from many of the Star Trek movies and TV series,” said DiLuzio. “‘Pirates of the Caribbean: The Black Pearl’ – another favorite from our archives features music from the first ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ movie.”

Timeless compositions, done in a slick pops-style fashion, also will be performed. “Flight of the Bumblebee will feature our fabulous Principal Flute player, Laura Rieker,” said DiLuzio. Up for offer will be a pair of tributes to music legends.“The Queen of Soul is a new piece that pays tribute to Aretha Franklin,” said DiLuzio. “Rock, Roll and Remember is a new piece that pays tribute to Dick Clark.”

Spectrum indeed will cover the spectrum of HSO, featuring prime selections from the orchestra’s four-decade history. “The concert will include several other pieces from our archives as well as new pieces,” said DiLuzio. Attention Season Ticket holders: Beginning next season (2023-2024), the orchestra will be reducing the Season Ticket price to $36 per person. You may begin renewing your Season Tickets for the 2023-2024 season on and after the upcoming February concert series.
