IV therapy a hot new wellness trend

Acupuncture Plus, Drip Therapies collaborate to offer vitamin replenishment, rehydration and detoxification infusions.

The patient has an IV in her arm, but she’s not in an emergency room. There’s no hospital bed, no fluorescent lighting — just soft lights and a calm ambiance. She’s totally relaxed and reclining in a comfortable chair as an IV gently drips a cocktail of vitamins, minerals, and amino acids into her bloodstream.

The patient is at Acupuncture Plus Holistic Center in Spring Hill. She’s under the direct care of holistic practitioner and acupuncturist Dr. Susan Phillips, and receiving IV therapy, also called IV hydration or vitamin drips — a method of delivering vitamins, minerals, and water through a person’s veins instead of orally.

Susan Phillips, R.N., M.T., A.P., D.O.M founded Acupuncture Plus in 2001. She is a Certified Critical Care R.N. and Trauma nurse, a Holistic Practitioner, and an Acupuncture Physician in the State of Florida. Phillips began her career in the healing arts in 1975 and has been practicing in Hernando County since 2001. She is board certified nationally in Chinese herbology and acupuncture.
“I did my post-grad work in China,” she explained, “I wanted to learn from the very people who have been doing this type of healing for over 5,000 years. It was a rich experience.”

“But it’s just a small piece of the pie,” said Phillips. “Holistic healing involves proper nutrition, also and a well-rounded approach to health.”
“IV therapy has gained huge popularity over the past few years and is a way to revitalize your immune system, improve hydration, enhance your mood, and improve your overall well-being,” said Phillips.

This is why Acupuncture Plus and Drip Therapies are now working together to offer the very best of holistic services to their clients.
“It’s a perfect marriage,” said Veronica Trollerud, CEO of Drip Therapies. Trollerud is a nationally licensed Acupuncture Physician and Chinese Herbalist (NCCAOM), earning her Master’s level degree in Oriental Medicine from Acupuncture Massage College in Miami, FL. She studied for 18 months in Shanghai, China and observed the IV infusion room where they administered not only vitamins but herbals as well. That’s where her idea for Drip Therapies originated.

Treatments fall into four categories: Hydration, Performance, Wellness and Beauty. Drip Therapies are also available to come to your home, office, hotel or event with a minimum patient requirement. “IV hydration therapy is very effective because it delivers key nutrients straight into your bloodstream,” said Veronica. “If you’re dehydrated, run-down, or have just had a busy few days, a vitamin infusion can help rehydrate you and fight off the headaches, brain fog, and fatigue that are often signs you haven’t been drinking enough water,” she said. “Electrolytes such as calcium, magnesium, and potassium are all essential for keeping us well hydrated.”

After a free consultation from Dr. Phillips at her clinic, a custom solution will be mixed, administered, and monitored. A cannula is inserted into a person’s vein, usually in the crook of their arm, and then attached with a tube to an IV bag containing the necessary fluids. An infusion session generally lasts anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour and takes place within the holistic center, with licensed medical professionals observing and monitoring the infusion.

The cost of drip therapy varies depending entirely on the healthcare professional’s recommendations, as the fluids or nutrition are specific to each person requiring treatment. Infusions can cost as little as $90 or up to $200 for a treatment.

Drip Therapies also offers a Drip of the Month at 10 percent off cost. Drips of the month vary from month to month and can include: A Myers Cocktail — adding all your needed vitamins and antioxidants within one infusion to supercharge your immune system. Or perhaps a Skinny Drip, which will help your body metabolize fat and help improve endurance and performance.

“We also offer IV therapy if you’ve imbibed a little too much alcohol the night before,” said Veronica. “That particular drip will reduce nausea, vomiting, and headaches and rehydrate your body with essential vitamins. You’ll instantly feel much better.”

Acupuncture Plus clinic offers the best in holistic care with natural remedies like acupuncture, nutritional supplementing, and massage. The clinic also offers a full range of testing, from heavy metals to hormonal testing. Visit facebook.com/AcupuncturePlusHolisticCenter/
