On May 12th around 2:24 p.m, Hernando County Sheriff’s deputies were called to Linda Pedersen Park, because a mother and her 17 year old son had become lost while walking in the Weeki Wachee Preserve. During their 911 call they told emergency dispatchers they had little water left and a low cell phone battery.

Once arriving at Linda Pedersen Park officers released a drone to help locate the lost individuals. After about 30 minutes of searching, officers were thankfully able to locate the mother and son around 4,000 feet from where the deputies had launched the drone. When they were found the mother and son did not appear to be harmed and refused medical treatment.

After they had returned to their vehicles, the mother and son thanked the deputies for their assistance.
