The toddler who was the victim of an accidental near-drowning in a swimming pool at a residence in Spring Hill has died. Denise Moloney, public relations manager for the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO), said that the agency was notified of the death on June 25.

“Detectives were notified by authorities at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital that, sadly, the toddler succumbed to medical complications as a result of this tragic accident,” she said on Monday.

At 4:15 p.m. on June 21, HCSO deputies and personnel from Hernando County Fire and Rescue (HCFR) responded to a call from a neighbor reporting that a child had possibly drowned in the swimming pool of a residence at Deltona Boulevard in Spring Hill. The neighbor, who is a nurse, began performing CPR on the child until the HCFR crew arrived at the scene.

The HCFR crew continued to perform life-saving measures on the child. She was in extremely critical condition when they transported her to Oak Hill Hospital in Brooksville.
