Property Appraiser Announces His Retirement

John Emerson, Hernando County Property Appraiser, announced on Monday, February 12th, 2024, that he will retire when his term ends in December 2024 and will not be seeking reelection. Emerson stated that during the past 36 years with the office and the last 12 years as the Property Appraiser, he has had the privilege of serving Hernando County, the taxpayers and has been fortunate to work with an excellent staff. Mr. Emerson is endorsing Kevin Johnston, Assistant Property Appraiser, to succeed him and stated that Kevin has worked for the Property Appraiser’s office for 31 years, including 10 years as Chief Deputy of Valuation and Tax Roll. His wealth of knowledge of all facets of the office will be very beneficial in serving the taxpayers of Hernando County. His strong commitment and enthusiasm will enable the office to continue to run smoothly and efficiently during this transition.
