The Lake Hideaway Project is causing strife with its neighbors. According to neighboring property owners, the clearing and heavy equipment is causing damage to their homes. They are inviting everyone who is being negatively affected by the construction to join them on May 9 at 6:30 p.m. at the Christian Church in the Wildwood.
The developer had offered a concession to get the project approved by the Hernando County Commission. The concession included a “50-foot undisturbed buffer between the homeowners’ property line and the property line of any and all future developments. This buffer must be at 80 percent opacity.”
Some neighboring properties are reporting that when clearing the property, the land was cleared to the property line, ignoring the agreed-upon 50-foot buffer. The neighbors attempted to reach the developer. When that failed, they reached out to the Hernando County Government and a stop work order was given.
Lake Hideaway is planned to be a 3,800-home lagoon community. When complete, it will be much like the Epperson Lagoon community in Wesley Chapel and the Mirada Lagoon community in Dade City and is expected to be the largest manmade lagoon in the world.
