The Nature Coast Orchid Society will host its annual orchid show and sale, “Love of Orchids,” on May 3 and 4 at St. Joan of Arc Church, 13485 Spring Hill Drive.
The event will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday and will feature stunning American Orchid Society-judged displays, educational lectures, guided tours and a children’s fun challenge.
Admission is $5. Veterans receive $1 off admission on Sunday, and children under 12 are admitted free. Parking is free for all attendees.
The “Love of Orchids” show is part of the society’s mission to educate the public and share the joy of growing orchids, said Matt Riesz, president of the Nature Coast Orchid Society.
“Our members range from beginners with just two orchids to collectors with thousands and full greenhouses,” Riesz said. “The annual show brings everyone together to display what’s in bloom and to share their passion with the community.”
Educational lectures will be held both days at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., and guided tours of the orchid displays are available by arrangement. Orchid experts will be on hand to answer questions and offer tips on orchid care.
Riesz explained that while orchids have a reputation for being difficult to grow, they are actually much easier to care for than many people realize. He noted that the society’s events and lectures are designed to dispel that misconception and help gardeners discover how simple and enjoyable orchid growing can be.
Attendees can browse and purchase from a wide variety of orchids and supplies offered by vendors, including Accent Orchids, Florida Orchid House, Jim-N-I Orchids, Garden Trails, Orchid Den, FL Suncoast, and Lady Vanda.
Because the event is being held later in the year than usual, guests can expect to see a different selection of orchids in bloom compared to past shows. With 25,000 species and over 250,000 registered hybrids, the variety of orchids on display is constantly changing, offering visitors a fresh and vibrant experience each time.
Visitors interested in joining the Nature Coast Orchid Society can sign up at the show. Membership is $20 per year for individuals or $25 per household. The group holds monthly meetings featuring guest speakers, as well as an annual orchid auction, which will take place in August this year.
