A traffic stop for speeding led to the arrest of a teenage driver wanted on multiple drug charges out of Charlotte County, authorities said.
On May 5, Hernando County Sheriff’s Deputy J. Mathis was patrolling Toucan Trail when he observed a vehicle traveling at 63 mph in a 30-mph zone, according to a sheriff’s office release. Mathis conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Toucan Trail and Baldwin Street.
The driver, identified as Anthony Knight, 18, was found to have an active warrant for charges including sale or delivery of a controlled substance, sale or delivery of cannabis, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of tetrahydrocannabinol.
Knight was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Hernando County Detention Center, where he was held on $12,000 bond.
