A registered sex offender from Brooksville has been sentenced to 30 months in state prison for failing to comply with Florida’s sex offender reporting requirements, according to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office.
Kevis Andre Spires, 44, was adjudicated guilty on April 2, 2025, and sentenced for failing to report an internet identifier account and a change in vehicle information. He was transferred from the Hernando County Detention Center to the Florida Department of Corrections on May 7 to begin serving his sentence.
The charges stem from Spires’ Aug. 22, 2024, arrest, when investigators discovered that he had been using an unreported email and social media account, as well as failing to notify authorities of two vehicles registered to himself and his spouse—both violations of his sex offender status.
Spires was previously convicted in Hillsborough County in 1996 of sexual battery involving a victim under 12 years of age, at which time he was designated a sexual offender under Florida law and became subject to ongoing registration requirements.
Detective Marcacci with the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office made contact with Spires at a Florida Department of Corrections Probation and Parole office in August 2024. After being read his Miranda rights, Spires admitted to owning the unreported accounts and claimed he forgot to disclose them. He was subsequently arrested and held without bond.
Spires was charged with:
– Failure to report an internet identifier account
– Failure to report a change in vehicle information
The Sheriff’s Office emphasized that sex offender registration requirements are vital to public safety and that violations are taken seriously
