The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office—Animal Services will launch a new Trap-Neuter-Vaccine-Return (TNVR) program on Wednesday, June 18, to humanely manage the local feral cat population.
The program will be offered exclusively to Hernando County residents and will operate on Wednesdays only. Ten appointments will be available each week. Appointments are required and must be scheduled in advance through the Signup Genius link provided by the Sheriff’s Office.
Only feral cats contained in proper cat traps will be accepted for the service. Cats in crates or carriers will not be admitted.
Drop-off and pick-up times are as follows:
– Drop-off: 8 to 8:15 a.m.
– Pick-up: 3 to 5:30 p.m.
Residents are limited to two cats per appointment. All TNVR cats must be picked up the same day, as the shelter cannot house them overnight following surgery.
Officials urge residents to cancel their appointment if they are unable to attend, to allow others to take advantage of the limited slots.
The Sheriff’s Office describes the TNVR program as a humane and effective way to reduce feral cat overpopulation, curb the spread of disease, and improve the overall health and safety of animals in Hernando County.
