BROOKSVILLE — A Hernando County Sheriff’s Office deputy sustained minor injuries following a crash involving a suspect vehicle Saturday night in South Brooksville.
The crash occurred around 8:30 p.m. near the intersection of South Main Street and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. According to the sheriff’s office, the deputy was on proactive patrol traveling northbound on South Main Street when he observed a southbound vehicle commit a traffic infraction.
When the deputy turned around, the suspect reportedly attempted to flee at a high rate of speed and ran a stop sign at the intersection. The suspect’s vehicle struck the rear side panel of a K-9 deputy’s patrol vehicle, which was traveling eastbound on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
The impact caused both vehicles to spin. The K-9 deputy’s vehicle came to a stop after its passenger side struck a power pole.
