Brooksville Man Arrested in Connection with Mobile Home Park Burglaries

During the month of June, a total of six Residential Burglaries were reported by residents living in the Braewood Mobile Home Park in Brooksville.

The residential burglaries were reported between 06-05-2020 to 06-18-2020.

All six residences were unoccupied at the time of the burglaries.

On 06-19-2020, a burglary victim, upon returning home and examining his residence, reported finding various items within the home that did not belong to him. Those items included a cell phone and a bag filled with various narcotics.

Sheriff submits proposed budget for FY 2020-2021

On June 1, 2020, Sheriff Al Nienhuis submitted the Hernando County Sheriff's Office’s (HCSO’s)  proposed annual budget for Fiscal Year (FY) 2020-2021, which funds Law Enforcement, Detention, and Courthouse Security.  The proposed budget of $58,913,360 is 4.67% more than the FY2020 approved budget of $56,287,539.

Nienhuis reports that his expected increase in revenue is to increase by 1.28% for the coming fiscal year ($4,232,978 in 2020 to $4,287,292 in 2021).

Brooksville Man Nabbed on Various Drug Charges Following Short Pursuit

On 06-08-2020 at 2:42 a.m., deputies responded to the area of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Twigg Street in Brooksville in reference to a report of a shooting in the area.

Witnesses reported seeing a man driving a red Honda Pilot down Twigg Street shooting a gun out of the driver’s side window.

Upon arrival, deputies quickly located the suspect’s vehicle and attempted to initiate a traffic stop.

The driver, later identified as Kenneth Mason B/M DOB/05-03-1986, proceeded to flee from deputies.

Sheriff's Vice and Narcotics Detectives Seize Illegal Narcotics

HCSO News Release

On 05-08-20 in the early morning hours, detectives with the Hernando County Sheriff's Office Vice and Narcotics Unit, with assistance from the HCSO SWAT team, executed a Search Warrant at 9226 Dan Lynn Street in Brooksville.

Detectives received information regarding the distribution of illegal narcotics occurring at this residence.

Investigation revealed, the resident, Tommy Owens, was in fact selling illegal narcotics from the residence.

During the execution of the Search Warrant, detectives located the following:

Nine Individuals Arrested in Connection with Brooksville Storage Unit Burglary

On 04-20-20, Hernando County sheriff's deputies responded to ABCD Self Storage located at 26367 Cortez Boulevard in reference to a Commercial Burglary.
One of the tenants reported that his storage unit was burglarized.

Once inside the unit, the suspects removed a large gun safe containing numerous firearms, cash, and the victim's personal identification. No other storage units were targeted by the burglars.

Woman Charged with Exploitation and Grand Theft After Stealing More Than One Million Dollars

In 2016, it was determined the victim suffered from both physical and mental impairments which led to a lack of self-care and the inability to handle his own finances. 
In July of 2016, a Power of Attorney was appointed to oversee the victim's personal and financial matters; however, the victim continued to live in his own home.  In mid-2017, the victim was no longer able to live alone and moved in with the suspect, Joan Marie Procida Milligan.

Arrest Summary: On 04/05/2020 at 0713 hours, I was dispatched to Camphor Dr. in reference to a Trespass.

Upon arrival, I made contact with the property owner, Theresa. Theresa advised that the defendant was on the back porch. I walked around the back and observed the defendant standing by the rear sliding glass doors.
