Fatal Hernando Crash US-19 / Pepper Street 9/20/20

At 4:17 PM on 9/20/20 a 45-year-old male from Port Richey Florida driving a pick up truck (vehicle 1) was traveling southbound in the center lane of US-19 approaching Pepper Street. A second pick up truck driven by a 76-year-old male from Holiday (vehicle 2) and a 81-year-old male from Homosassa, driving a sedan (vehicle 3) were stationary in the center lane and inside lane of US-19 respectively due to a red traffic signal at the intersection of Pepper Street.

Fatal Hernando Crash NB SR-589/MM38 9/16/2020

7:25 AM 

A 33-year-old male from Spring Hill, driving a sedan, was traveling northbound on SR-589 near the 38 milepost when the driver lost control of the vehicle on the wet roadway. The sedan entered the center median while rotating, striking smaller trees before colliding with a large tree with
the right side of the vehicle and coming to final rest. Unfortunately, although he was wearing a seatbelt, he did suffer fatal injuries at the scene of the crash. 

Fatal Hernando Crash Corporate Blvd and Aerial Way 9/13/2020

A 51 year old femaile from Spring Hill driving a SUV was traveling eastbound on Corporate Blvd approaching Aerial Way. A 30 year old male in a pick-up  truck was traveling westbound on Corporate Blvd approaching Aerial Way. For reasons unknown, The driver of the SUV crossed over the double yellow center line. As a result, the left front of the SUV struck the left front of pick up truck. The driver of  pickup was pronounced deceased on the scene. The 51 year old female of the SUV was transported to a local hospital with incapacitating injuries.

Fatal Hernando Crash - Culbreath Road 9/5/2020

 

On September 5th, 2020 a 74-year-old male from Spring Hill Florida, was driving a sedan, and traveling southbound on Culbreath Road south of Carr Creek Dive. For unknown reasons the driver lost control of his vehicle  It then departed the roadway, entered the west shoulder, and struck a tree. At that point, the sedan caught fire and the driver suffered fatal injuries at the scene of the crash.  At the time of this release no next of kin had been notified.  

Hernando County Fatal Crash US 41 on 8/18/2020

On August 18, 2020, a sport utility vehicle driven by a 17-year-old female, from Brooksville, was traveling northbound on US-41 approaching Lakeside Drive when she failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway. The SUV departed the roadway, entered the east shoulder and collided with a tree. On August 23 a 16 year old passenger, from Brooksville, who was not wearing a seatbelt, expired from injuries sustained during the crash. The driver and another 17-year-old female passenger suffered serious injuries in the crash. Both were wearing seatbelts. 

Fatal Overnight Hernando County Crash 7/30/2020 Harrow Road

On 7/30/2020 at 11:34 PM a 45-year-old female driver from Spring Hill, driving a sedan, was traveling southbound on Harrow Road approaching the intersection of Norbert Street. The driver failed to stop for a posted stop sign, struck a dip in the roadway, became airborne, landed, then rotated onto the east shoulder. Once on the shoulder, the sedan continued to rotate while colliding with a mailbox, street sign and power pole. The vehicle continued across Elk Lane into the front yard of 3208 Elk Lane, overturned, and the driver was ejected from the vehicle.

Fatal Hernando Crash NB US-19 / VESPA WAY 6/15/20

A 54-year-old male driving a pickup truck at 1:10 AM  was traveling northbound on US-19, north of Vespa Way. For an unknown reason, the driver lost control of the vehicle which began to rotate. It then departed the highway, entered the grass shoulder, collided first with a power pole, and finally a water main. Upon impact, the pickup overturned and the driver was ejected, suffering fatal
injuries at the crash scene.

Fatal Hernando County Crash CR-574 5/31/20

A vehicle was traveling eastbound on CR-574 (Spring Hill Drive), west of Maguire Avenue. A pedestrian was walking southbound across CR-574 and entered the path of the vehicle. As a result, the vehicle collided with the pedestrian who suffered serious injuries. Following the crash, the driver fled the crash scene on foot. Transported to an area hospital, the pedestrian later expired from the injuries sustained during the crash. FHP troopers are currently searing for Kevin Patrick Benstead, 61, of Brooksville, Florida, identified as the driver of the vehicle.
