PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD NOTICE

HERNANDO COUNTY CDBG 
GENERAL INFRASTRUCTURE GRANT
FIREHOUSE STATION #9 REBUILD

Hernando County is developing an Application for the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity Community Development Block Grant-Mitigation (CDBG-MIT) Rebuild Florida General Infrastructure Program. The County is seeking input from potential stakeholders and the public on the grant application. 

The County is applying for approximately $5,746,200.00 in funding to mitigate the risks to the protected Community Lifelines of Safety & Security, Food, Water, Shelter, Communication, Transportation, Hazardous Waste and Health and Medical, by through the demolition and complete new construction of a new fire rescue station.  These funds must be used for the following purposes:

To provide funding to units of general local government (UGLG) such as municipalities and counties, state agencies, non-profits and non-governmental organizations to implement innovative, collaborative, multi-jurisdictional and/or large-scale mitigation activities that reduce previously identified hazard risks for local communities to better withstand emergency-related challenges. These regional investments include, but are not limited to, upgrading of water, sewer, solid waste, communications, energy, transportation, health, and medical and other public infrastructure projects. The County’s proposed activities include land acquisition, design, survey, permitting and the construction of a new building with expanded areas for additional personnel & equipment that meet Florida Building Code (FBC) and wind rating requirements.

A public announcement of these funds and the proposed project is posted on the County’s Website and an advertisement is published in the local paper. The public is invited to provide comments on the CDBG-MIT General Infrastructure Program Project. A draft application has been developed and the public is invited to review the draft application posted on the County’s web at hernandocounty.us and click on Public Notices or to view a hard copy by contacting Kelly Trout, HCFES Finance Manager, at phone: 352-754-4282 or email: [email protected] . Written comments may be provided to Kelly Trout and MUST be received no later than September 16th, 2021.
