NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING TO IMPOSE AND PROVIDE FOR COLLECTION OF
SOLID WASTE COLLECTION SPECIAL ASSESSMENTS
Notice is hereby given that the Board of County Commissioners of Hernando County, Florida, will conduct a public hearing to consider the reimposition and increase of the annual solid waste collection special assessments for the provision of solid waste collection services within the boundaries of the Southwest Hernando County Solid Waste Collection Municipal Service Benefit Unit (MSBU), which includes all real property located in the MSBU area, for the calendar year beginning January 1, 2024, and future years.
The hearing will be held on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at 9:00 a.m., or as soon thereafter as possible, in the County Commission Chambers, located in the Hernando County Government Center, 20 North Main Street, Room 160, Brooksville, Florida, for the purpose of receiving public comment on the proposed assessments. All affected property owners have a right to appear at the hearing and to file written objections with the Board of County Commissioners within 20 days from the date of this notice.
If a person decides to appeal any decision made by the Board of County Commissioners with respect to any matter considered at the hearing, such person will need a record of the proceedings and may need to ensure that a verbatim record is made, including the testimony and evidence upon which the appeal is to be made.

The assessment for each parcel of property will be based upon each parcel’s classification and the total number of assessment units attributed to that parcel. The following tables reflect the proposed solid waste collection assessment schedules.

Copies of the Southwest Hernando County Solid Waste Collection MSBU Ordinance, amendments to said Ordinance, the initial Assessment Resolution for the Southwest Hernando County Solid Waste Collection MSBU, the current Southwest Hernando County Solid Waste Collection MSBU Assessment Resolution, the Preliminary Rate Resolution and the updated Assessment Roll are available for inspection in the Office of the Clerk to the Board of County Commissioners located at 20 North Main Street, Room 362, Brooksville, Florida.
The total revenue to be collected by the proposed solid waste collection assessments for Calendar Year 2024 is estimated at $8,046,566.
The assessments will be collected on the ad valorem tax bill to be mailed in November 2023 and future years, as authorized by Section 197.3632, Florida Statutes. Failure to pay the assessments will cause a tax certificate to be issued against the property which may result in a loss of title.
