Man Attacked by Dogs After Leaving Friend's House

On 08-08-20 just before noon, Hernando County Sheriff’s Deputies, Animal Enforcement Officers (AEO), and Hernando County Fire and Emergency Services (HCFES) were dispatched to 5370 California Street in Brooksville regarding a Dog Attack.

The caller told the 9-1-1 operator a man was being attacked by three dogs. The caller then disconnected.

Another caller reporting incident stated two of the three dogs had run off, and the other one was currently contained in a travel trailer on the property.

On 07-26-20 just before 5 a.m., Hernando County Sheriff’s deputies responded to Spring Lake Highway just south of Hayman Road in (Spring Lake) Brooksville to investigate a report of a person “down” on the west side of the roadway.

Deputies and Hernando County Fire and Emergency Services arrived on scene to locate a female on the side of the road. The female was pronounced deceased at 5:05 a.m.

Homicide suspect Sean Michael McMullen arrested in Tampa

Sean Michael McMullen who was wanted in connection to a homicide that occurred on U.S. 301 North (Treiman Boulevard) in Ridge Manor on 04-12-20 has been captured in Tampa today, August 5th. Hernando County Sheriff detectives and the US Marshals Service made the arrest. Detectives and U.S. Marshals would like to thank the numerous citizens who have provided tips regarding the whereabouts of McMullen.

McMullen was charged as follows:
• Second Degree Murder w/a Deadly Weapon
• No Bond.

 

Detectives Investigating Suspicious Death in Spring Lake 7/27/2020

Detectives Need Help Locating Homicide Suspect - McMullen

Hernando County Sheriff’s detectives are asking for help from the community and from our media partners in locating a Homicide Suspect.

Sean Michael McMullen is WANTED in connection to a HOMICIDE that occurred on U.S. 301 North (Treiman Boulevard) in Ridge Manor on 04-12-20.

A warrant for the arrest of McMullen is on file at the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office.

Detectives have exhausted all avenues in their attempts to locate McMullen over the last several weeks and are now requesting assistance from the public regarding his whereabouts.

Update – Shooting Investigation Lincoln Road -- Brooksville 7/27/2020

UPDATE

The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office has arrested two individuals in connection with the 06-21-2020 shooting on Lincoln Road in Brooksville.

Galvin Bernard Smith DOB/08-09-1975 was arrested Friday during a traffic stop on Deltona Boulevard.

Galvin Smith was charged with a Weapon Offense – Missile into a Dwelling, Attempted Homicide – Attempted Murder in the First Degree (Premeditated), and Possession of a Weapon or Ammunition by a Convicted Felon.

His bond was set at $850,000 during First Appearance.

Accreditation Team Invites Public Comments About Hernando County Sheriff's Office

A team of assessors from the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation (CFA) will conduct a virtual assessment on all aspects of the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office policies and procedures, management, operations, and support services. The assessment will be virtual due to maintaining safe guidelines as stated by the CDC, and has been scheduled for August 25th through August 27th, Sheriff Al Nienhuis announced today. The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office must comply with approximately 260 standards in order to receive accredited status.

Detectives Investigating Early Morning Armed Robbery at Wawa in Brooksville

Original Information – 07-07-20

On 07-07-20 just after 5 a.m., Hernando County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the Wawa, located at 20101 Cortez Boulevard in Brooksville, regarding an Armed Commercial Robbery.

Preliminary investigation reveals a white male, who was concealing his identity, entered the store and robbed the clerk at gunpoint.

Immediately following the robbery, the male entered a vehicle that was waiting in the parking lot and fled the area.
