A rabbi and his family have moved from Brooklyn, New York to start a Jewish Center for the Hernando County community.

"I want to share our vision for the Chabad Center. To create a home for everything Jewish. Where everyone feels welcome as family," said Rabbi Chaim Lipszyc. "Regardless of background or previous experience or how one labels themselves. We see everyone as Jewish period. No labels. We welcome all to participate in celebrating the joys of Judaism," explained Lipszyc.

Operation Christmas Child

Brooksville’s First Baptist Church hosted a “Packing Party” for Operation Christmas Child on 11/19/16. What is a packing party? And what exactly is Operation Christmas Child? I’m glad you asked! Operation Christmas Child is a project by international charity Samaritan’s Purse- a Christian relief and evangelism organization headed by Franklin Graham. This project is intended to spread God’s love and hope by delivering shoeboxes filled with toys, school supplies and hygiene items to children in need overseas.

All Ye that Labor...

Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. -Matt. 11:28 (KJV)

Rest and relaxation. We all need it from time to time, whether from doing hard physical labor or from mental exertion and stress. When you have exercised on that “treadmill of life,” God invites us to come to Him and He promises to give us His rest. What is this “rest” that God is talking about that He wants to give us? It is His restorative healing power of whatever we need at that moment, whether physical or mental. The kind of rest that restores our soul and body.

Election Day Service at Holy Cross Lutheran in Spring Hill

On Election Day, Holy Cross Lutheran Church will offer a special service to reconcile the struggles citizens have faced during this election cycle. The service will be the first of its kind for Holy Cross Lutheran. Pastor Peter Morey who has been with Holy Cross Lutheran in Spring Hill since 2014, expressed deep concern with the toll the election has taken on spirituality in America.

"I have members of my congregation who are no longer welcome in their family's homes."

Two magic words

Thoughts become things.
Isn’t that what they say?
Thoughts become words.
Words become actions.
Actions become habits.
Habits become character.
Character becomes destiny.

Don’t you realize you can control your own destiny? All it takes is two magic words. We say these words every single day but most people don’t even realize it.

If everyone understood the power that these two words held, I am sure that they would be much more careful about what they say. These magic words are so common that I have already said them.

Honoring the History of Eden Baptist Church

Eden Baptist Church by artist Maryleen Webb

For the 171st Anniversary of Eden Baptist Church in Lake Lindsey, Hernando Sun is publishing a piece written by Bobby and Betty (Cason) Snow in October 2011 entitled "Eden Baptist Church, The Early Years, 1840s and 1850s". The article was originally published in the "Eden Baptist Church Homecoming Celebration" on October 16, 2011. It is a very comprehensive history and we plan to publish it in segments. The following segment describes the "environment that the seeds of Eden Baptist Church began" as well as the earliest pastors and charter members of the church.

Relationships not religion

Relationships, Not Religion- That’s the message Pastor Samuel Cruz of Iglesia Fuente de Salvacion wants people to understand. Relationship with Christ and with each other. Pastor Cruz is passionate about spreading the message of Christ’s Love and believes that many “Christians” get so bogged down with rules and regulations that they lose touch with the original message. He believes that many churches –even in Hernando County- try so hard to look like Christians that they end up forgetting the most important principals: Loving God above all else and loving your neighbor as yourself.

God Shall Supply All Your Need

“God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus…” Philippians 4: 19 (KJV)

What is it that you need today? At your place of employment, have you ever made a requisition order from the supply room or inventory warehouse? Philippians 4:6 (KJV) tells us, “In every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.” God is telling us in this verse to come to Him with our requisition for our needs. Whatever the need that you are having, God has it in His warehouse. Nothing is too big or too difficult for Him to supply. Make your request to Him. And trust Him to deliver. Period. Let Him work out the logistics of that delivery.

Have Faith: Achieve Excellence

by Emily Russell

I love the Olympics. It is an amazing showcase of excellence that happens every four years. I enjoy hearing the stories of the individuals who qualify to compete for their countries, of dreams that began at a young age while watching other Olympians. There are stories of competitors who overcome great odds to earn a place on the podium and receive a medal, or surprise champions who score higher than the favorites.
