2021 Kickball Champs: WRECking Crew from Withlacoochee River Electric Cooperative

United Way of Hernando County raised more than $12,000 for childhood literacy at their 6th Annual "KICK" Start to Early Literacy Kickball Tournament, celebrated at Anderson Snow Park in Spring Hill on Saturday, March 27. WRECking Crew claimed victory in this tournament, the proceeds of which will provide 6,000 books to area children.

The Withlacoochee District, part of the Greater Tampa Bay Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America, has been named District of the Year by the council. And Spring Hill's Brandon Kathman, district executive of the Withlacoochee District (which includes 45 troops and at least 1,000 Scouts in Citrus, Hernando, and Sumter counties), has been named the council's Executive of the Year.

Dawn Center Partners with Community Food Bank

A community partnership has enhanced food supplies at Dawn Center Domestic & Sexual Violence Services; thanks to a Citrus-based agency that aims to deliver hope and nourishment to many more people on the Nature Coast. "Things are going well with food right now, thanks for our amazing relationship with the Community Food Bank (located in Citrus County)," said Shannon Sokolowski, MNM, Executive Director of Dawn Center. "They serve both Citrus and Hernando."

Show Us Your Sunshine: The Spring Lake Memorial Classic

The Spring Lake Memorial Classic, a fund-raiser hosted by The Arc Nature Coast, makes a grand return Saturday, May 29, at The Arc Nature Coast - Brooksville Campus, 5283 Neff Lake Road, Brooksville.  And while competitors course the sun-drenched hills of scenic eastern Hernando County in 10K (The Neff Lake Monster), 5K (Florida's Toughest 5K) and 2 mile (The Perfect Stroll) races, they will be helping individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
