HCSD clears teacher in controversy

On September 2, 2020, a photo of a presentation slide containing a quote regarding “Black Lives Matter” surfaced from a Hernando High School U.S. Government classroom, sparking a School Board investigation based on the concern that Dr. Christina Torres-Velazquez was sharing her personal political views and beliefs to students. Torres-Velazquez has been cleared of the allegations by the school district.

Hernando Schools to offer free meals to children starting the 23rd of March

This week, Hernando Schools are on Spring Break. However, next week's required school closure could place a hardship on our families whose children depend on the meals they receive at school. Hernando School Food and Nutrition Dept staff have worked to create a plan to offer meals at no cost to children under 18 starting on the 23rd of March. Review the poster for specifics.

THOUSANDS ATTEND HCSD BACK TO SCHOOL BASH

BROOKSVILLE – On Saturday, July 27th, HCSD’s Parent Academy team, along with 85 school district and community volunteers, arrived at Nature Coast Technical High School to host their annual “Back To School Bash”. Only in its 3rd year, the event reached an attendance milestone. Parent Academy staff estimate this year’s event brought in approximately 5,000 attendees - almost 2,000 more than last year! 

School Board Discusses Oversight Committee for Half Cent Sales Tax Revenue Spending

With the passing of the half cent sales surtax referendum, the school district must now form an oversight committee to report to the school board on the spending of the half cent sales tax dollars. At the October 5th workshop, school board members discussed how to structure such a committee.
