Notes from the Museums: The Trees

The May-Stringer Museum sits on a hill and encompasses a full city block.  The Museum  building covers a small portion of the lot and, of course, is the main focus of the property. However, the trees and gardens are also a part of the history of the area.

The outstanding trees are the three massive oak trees and the majestic palm trees. Untold numbers of people have passed under the shade of these old giants. The Museum Association would like to invite volunteers to take on the project of cataloging and documenting the trees and other vegetation on the property. It’s not a HUGE endeavor, but it would be very meaningful to record the current description of this part of the landscape.

Two trees that were damaged by fire last year had to be carefully removed by A & R Tree Service just recently. It’s a sad day when trees have to be removed, but sometimes safety warrants the removal. If you or someone you know is interested in working on the Tree Project, please call 352-799-0129 and leave a message.

Also, the Memory Garden is getting a makeover by the Brooksville Garden Club and will be looking great for your springtime visits.
