Update Jan. 11, 2022– A woman and her infant son from Weeki Wachee were killed on Monday when the Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) in which they were riding slammed into a pick-up truck at an intersection in Spring Hill. Two other vehicles were also involved in the incident which closed all lanes of US 19 at Berkeley Manor Boulevard for several hours.

According to Sgt. Steve Gaskins, public information officer (PIO) for the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), just after 10 a.m. on Jan. 10, a pick-up truck driven by a 30-year-old man from Brooksville was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of US-19 at Breakwater Boulevard. At the same time, an SUV driven by a 35-year-old woman from Weeki Wachee was traveling eastbound from Breakwater Boulevard. At the intersection, the woman tried to turn north, subsequently turned left into the path of the pick-up, and was struck by the truck.

Upon impact, the pick-up traveled southeast and collided with an SUV driven by a Melbourne man that was at a standstill in the northbound left lane of the roadway. As a result of that collision, the SUV was propelled into a pick-up truck driven by a man from Hudson.

The driver of that pick-up truck and his female passenger also from Hudson were uninjured in the incident.
