A land of endless and mystical wonder, Ireland is far more than a popular tourist destination. It’s a geographic symbol of strength and beauty. If you’re looking to learn more about the Land of Eire in all its many facets, tune into “A History of Ireland Before Independence” that will be presented on March 4th at 10am at Academia Hernando.
This presentation will take place at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church located at 2301 Deltona Blvd., in Spring Hill. This program draws its origins more than a decade ago from the popular “Mondays in Brooksville” program. Academia Hernando is a not-for-profit lifelong learning organization providing quality instruction and learning experiences for adult students throughout Hernando County and beyond. The program is sponsored by The Hernando Sun, Kenjo’s Tree Service and The Residence at Timber Pines.

The history of Ireland reads like a Greek tragedy; Heroes with feet of clay, betrayals, success followed by failure. But always the Irish spirit prevails! This lecture will examine Ireland from roughly 700BC to 1927. This presentation will be delivered by Ruth Kelly, a retired history professor emeritus, from D’Youville College, a small liberal arts college in Buffalo, New York. She received her PhD from the State University of New York at Buffalo. She taught for many years at D’Youville College. She counts among her favorite courses “The History of Ireland, in Ireland”, which took students on a history tour of Ireland. She has traveled to Ireland many times and never tires of the people and history of Ireland. Kelly stated, “It’s the story of the Irish struggle for independence through the years. Through legal and violent means.”
Kelly is the author of several journal articles regarding Pennsylvania history and a book about early Constitutional Law. She also has a Masters in Theology and has published several articles on American Catholicism. She still teaches online courses at D’Youville College.

Sharon Printz, board member of Academia Hernando, is proud to present “A History of Ireland Before Independence.” Printz shares that Ruth Kelly is a great speaker and excellent teacher. Coming soon at Academia Hernando, the program will culminate with a mystery excursion on March 11th. An academic subscription to Academia Hernando costs $70 and includes all eight lectures and a mystery bus trip excursion. Tickets to individual lectures are $10.
