The Brooksville Uptown Art Gallery is putting a call out for artists

In its infinite beauty and elegance, that majestic creature known as “Equine” horse is among Brooksville’s creations. In its upcoming exhibit “Brooksville Equine and Beyond” the Uptown Art Gallery at the Brooksville City Hall honors and celebrates the radiance of equine elegance.

The Uptown call for artists states, “From March 21, 2022, through March 25, 2022, the Uptown Art Gallery at the Brooksville City Hall would be pleased to have you submit 3-5 pieces of your artwork created with any equestrian subject matter! In years past and present, Brooksville has been known for horses. This call for artists is in celebration of our noble steeds; To pay homage to our beautiful Brooksville and its majestic horses. While there is no theme requirement, we would love any reference to ‘Equine’ in your pieces. Let us go ‘Beyond’ our noble steeds to recognize Brooksville as a place where many farm animals, pets, and woodland families live.”

The artwork must be submitted Monday, March 21, 2022 through Friday, March 25, 2022, 10:30 am-2:30 pm daily. The “Brooksville Equine and Beyond” exhibit will run April 8, through June 3, 2022, and the reception for “Brooksville Equine and Beyond” will be on Friday April 8, from 5:30 pm -7:30 pm. Music and refreshments will be provided. The Uptown Art Gallery at the Brooksville City Hall is currently open to the public.

Pedram Moghaddam, Art Gallery Coordinator, says that “Brooksville Equine and Beyond” is the ideal theme for a springtime art show in Hernando. He states, “Brooksville is known for its horses and riders and the theme couldn’t be more timely.” Moghaddam states that when it comes to the care and protection of the environment, the equine theme is always relevant. He states, “It’s about conservation. Especially here in Brooksville, with its large farms and small town feel, we need to preserve the environment. And artists, in their many works, can make something from the environment.”

Expanding and expounding on this concept, Moghaddam emphasizes the intrinsic connection between art and nature. “Let’s preserve and protect it!” he writes in the related news release. “When any of these creatures get in your path on your busy commutes, then slow down and if possible, take a picture. As you take in this beautiful time, accept that you are one with nature. Take your preferred tools that make dark marks with you.”
Moghaddam expects to see a vast variety of submissions for the equine art show, including sculptures, paintings, drawings, abstract and realistic works, video works, etc. Featured artworks will include “The Fire Pit” by Tennille Roth, “The Blue Horse” by Justin Alsedek, and City Hall fixture “Equine” by James Oleson.

All forms of media are welcome in this exhibit and student work is welcome. All artwork should be gallery-ready to hang, with a wire securely attached to the back or bottom of the work. If the piece is not for sale, the artist should state that also.

Overall, Moghaddam feels that the horse makes for a challenging artistic subject. He explained, “Like the model of the human, the horse is a challenge to draw; Large and boney. And like a dog, a horse can be man’s best friend.” This majestic creature, he says, is worthy of artistic tribute.

“These souls are the best models if we respect their space, slow down, and take it all in. Silence in the woods is priceless!” he said. All of those with a love for the equine are invited to contribute their artistic masterworks to Brooksville Equine and Beyond.

“Brooksville artists as well as artists beyond Brooksville are welcome to enter. This is your chance to hone into your creativity and shine, set the record straight, be bold, or even reserved by expressing the subtleties,” wrote Moghaddam. “Dazzle the community with your individual style and/or mastered techniques (cubist, impressionist, expressionist etc.)! Anything that relates to an animal, pet, in landscapes, flowers, or nature. Just work in the concept of equine/horses. Remember to name your work after the inspiration.”

The Uptown Art Gallery at the Brooksville City Hall is open to the public daily, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, except holidays. The gallery is located at 201 Howell Avenue, Brooksville.
