Dates set for mermaid camp!

Weeki Wachee Springs is fulfilling the dreams of wanna-be mermaids once again this year. Friends of Weeki Wachee Springs State Park is hosting their fun and fanciful mermaid camps. The Junior Mermaid Camps kick off on April 2 and are for children ages 7-14 years. The Sirens of the Deep Mermaid Camps begin on April 23 and are for adults ages 30 and older. There are few open spaces available for both camps as they have nearly reached capacity for 2022.

“These camps have been making the dreams of girls and women come true for years,” said President of Friends of Weeki Wachee Springs State Park, Gail Anderson. The Sirens of the Deep Mermaid Camp gives adult women the opportunity to try their hand, and their newly minted fins, for a fun course in just how to mermaid!

Sirens of the Deep Mermaid camp includes underwater ballet training sessions and all mermaid camp trainers are previous Weeki Wachee mermaids volunteering their time.
Upon completion of the camp, each participant will be named an honorary Weeki Wachee Mermaid. At a culminating lunch, a Sirens of the Deep Mermaid Camp certificate of completion will be given to each participant.

Participants are advised that they will not be instructed to breathe from air hoses. This would require SCUBA certification, first aid, CPR and several months of training. They will be swimming in a depth of approximately 15 feet of water while in training sessions. In addition, a trained underwater performer will be with them at all times when they are in the water.

Camp sessions are filled on a first-come, first-served basis, with a maximum of eight participants for each camp. For payment information and options, visit the Friends of Weeki Wachee Springs State Park website. All money raised for the camp benefits the Friends of Weeki Wachee Springs State Park.

For the younger set, the Junior Mermaid Camp will include many exciting experiences for participants. The Friends of Weeki Wachee State Park newsletter states there will be mermaid makeovers, a personal photo session in a tail, various mermaid crafts, education about the spring, and multiple swimming sessions in the mermaid spring led by the World Famous Weeki Wachee Mermaids.
