‘Dining Under the Stars’ had its second incarnation in downtown Brooksville. Main Street was closed in front of the Court House and tables were set up in the street for the entire block.
This is a farm-to-table event benefiting Mid Florida Community Services, Inc., and the Children’s Advocacy Center of Hernando County. Both of these charities provide essential services to the local community.
Tickets for the open air dinner were $150 a person. It is an audacious undertaking as a rain storm could ruin the evening. The chef created a four course meal that was paired with small glasses of wine. The braised short ribs were exceptional.
Although these dining under the stars dinners have become popular recently, Brooksville predated the trend, in 1901 William Sherman Jennings was elected governor of Florida. He lived in Brooksville at the time and many of his supporters lived in Brooksville. After Mr. Jennings was elected governor, he threw a tremendous feast for his supporters outside his home in downtown Brooksville.
