A new measure filed by State Sen. Blaise Ingoglia (R-Spring Hill) would rename a portion of roadway in Hernando County in honor of radio broadcaster and Medal of Freedom recipient Rush Limbaugh.

If passed and signed into law, SB 982 would rename the portion of highway between US-41 and State Road 50 in Hernando County “Rush Limbaugh Way.”  The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office, the county’s main post office, is located on this stretch of highway.

After filing the bill on Feb. 21, Ingoglia said that the road renaming would remind people of Limbaugh’s commitment to American freedom and excellence.

“Rush Limbaugh is an American icon (who) inspired me, as well as tens of millions of Americans, to get involved in politics,” Ingoglia said. “This road designation will remind people of his passion and love of country.”

“Limbaugh believed in democracy, capitalism, and the First Amendment,” Bell said. “It is only fitting for the state to honor this Floridian by naming a road after him in Brooksville.”

For years, Limbaugh’s broadcasts were carried on WWJB in Brooksville.
