Hernando Beach Boat Parade & Fundraiser

The boat parade was not just a celebration of our country’s declaration of Independence from England, but the organizers at Hernando Beach Yacht Club used the event to raise money for the Florida Veterans Foundation. Many local businesses were involved and the Hernando Beach Club was gracious to donate the proceeds of their food sales during the boat parade for the Florida Veteran’s Foundation. One of its members (Stella Kelly), who lost a brother during the Vietnam War had been creating memorial quilts to donate to worthy charities, but this year, she created a memorial quilt to honor Bill and Patty Roberts. Bill flew B-52s for many years and his wife, while not in the air, helped keep Bill’s mind clear by raising their 3 children and always being active in the community, which they still are.

The parade and all the activities were to honor the fine people of this country. More than 200 years have passed since a small group of determined patriots decided to fight for their freedom. The essence and soul of those few, fierce people remain today. No matter your political affiliation or stance, draw your inspiration from our forefathers. Stand for what you know is right. If you don’t feel proud that you live in America, how about if you take a few minutes to feel gratitude that you live here?
